Our Story
“With Cane Bay, we wanted to create an environment that would give a wide variety of people access to the things that are important in everyone's quality of life.”Ben Gramling III
President, Gramling Brothers Real Estate & Development
Like just about everyone else, we love it here in the Lowcountry. Every day, more and more people move to the Charleston area because it’s such a wonderful place to live, and every day it gets more and more difficult to find affordable real estate in town. Head northwest a few miles, though, and you start to see something pretty promising: open space. Beautiful land, in fact.
Ben Gramling III, President of Gramling Brothers Real Estate & Development, looked at this wide open space and envisioned a quiet haven of small-town community, right there in the heart of Berkeley County — just a 30-minute drive from Charleston. Close to everything, yet with room to spread out.
He saw home sites generously spaced so that no two back up to each other. Miles of trails that connect neighborhood to neighborhood, allowing residents to run, bike or stroll without ever crossing a busy street. Schools right there in the neighborhood (which is why he later donated more than 160 acres of land to Berkeley County Schools). And all this at prices people could afford.
Ben realized this community would only take shape with the help of others, and to that end Cane Bay involved local policymakers and development partners from the very beginning. (After all, only neighbors can build a neighborhood.) All told, the vision for Cane Bay encompasses a wide variety of home choices, healthcare services through Trident Health System, businesses and retail shops, recreational facilities and more.
It’s a big undertaking to build a community from the ground up. But with homes going in and construction well underway for Cane Bay High School, Cane Bay Plantation is taking shape as the Lowcountry’s most sought-after new home community.
